INDEPENDANT ETHICS COMMITEE
Per GCP, an independent ethics committee must review and approve all procedures before any human clinical study may begin. The aim of such a committee is to protect the rights, safety and well being of volunteers participating in a study. The committee members must therefore have pertinent and diverse expertise. As such, the experts on the ethics committee may question the rationale behind the study, the protocol, or request documents pertinent to the trial such as consent forms, investigator credentials and information on the test product.
The Ethics Committee has the power to reject a study and/or request amendments to protocol, oversee the progress of a trial, and/or stop a trial if necessary.
